Abstract

Axle distance members.-The axle, i of a motor vehicle is connected to a pair of spring-controlled levers a, b, Figs. 1 and 2, by means of shackles ? j which are ball jointed, or the equivalent, to the levers and to the axle so as to permit slight lateral movement of the axle relatively to the chassis, which movement is resisted by the suspension springs k. The shackles j may be inclined transversely and symmetrically. In the modifications shown in Figs. 4 and 5, pairs of parallel links AC, BD are connected to the chassis and ball jointed, or the equivalent, to members l rigid with the axle i, the suspension springs k being arranged as shown in either Fig. 4 or Fig. 5.
