Abstract
180,711. Alexander, A. E., (Three Point Truck Corporation). Dec. 24, 1920. Frame components, applying and combining; three-point suspension; axle distance members and radius-rods and torque-rods.-In a motor vehicle undercarriage of the three-point-suspension type, the frame rests freely on springs between the frame and axles, a thrust element 24, Fig. 1, is pivoted to the ends of the rear axle and by a universal joint to the centre line of the frame, and the driving-shaft is provided with a flexible joint 19 close to the universal joint, the driving-shaft being parallel to the plane of the thrust element. The front of the frame is pivoted on a vertical member slidable in a guide on the front axle and secured to the centre of a cross leaf spring, the ends of which bear on the ends of the front axle. Leaf springs 7 are attached to the rear axle at their centres and carry the frame on their free ends while coil springs 8 are disposed between the frame and the axle. The rear triangular structure 24 comprises two side members and a central longitudinal member 23, Fig. 4, each pivoted on the rear axle. The member 23 is connected to the frame 2 by a ball-and-socket joint 26. The members 42 of the front triangulated structure are secured to the front axle and are pivoted to the frame by a similar ball-and-socket joint 43. The torque-rod 30 is pivoted to the frame and the rear axle by ball-and-socket joints 31, 29. The cross members 27, 32, 44 of the frame are slid vertically into liners 35 slidable longitudinally in the frame 2, and both are secured by bolts 36.
