510,455. Road-vehicle undercarriages; motor vehicle, driving &c. wheels. STEYR-DAIMLERPUCH AKT.-GES. Feb. 2, 1938, No. 3289. Convention date, Jan. 22. [Class 108 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXI] In wheel-mountings for vehicles having at least one pair of driven wheels individually guided by transverse swingable links, in which the wheel-carriers are constructed in two releasably-connected parts of which one part serves as a bearing support for the wheels and the other encloses the drive joint, the links are pivoted to the part enclosing the drive joint. In one form, Fig. 1, for unsteered wheels, the wheel-carrier comprises parts 1, 2 connected by bolts 7, the part 1 supporting bearings 4, 3 for the wheel hub 5<1> and driven shaft 5, and links 8, 9, of which the link 9 is formed by the transverse leaf suspension spring, being pivoted to the part 2. The shaft 5 is formed with a spherical shell 11 forming part of the universal joint connecting the shaft 5 to the driving shaft 10. The part 2 is formed with a protective shield 14 for the wheel brake pipe 15. In a second form, Fig. 2, for steered wheels, the wheelcarrier comprises a stub-axle in two releasablyconnected parts 1, 2', mounted by trunnions 30, 30<1> in a stub-axle bracket 2<11>, the members 2<1>, 2<11> corresponding to the part 2. The shell 11 has flattened side portions and the part 2<1> is correspondingly narrowed to increase the steering lock. Specification 488,086 is referred to.
