Abstract

465,635. Motor-vehicle steering-mechanism. BALLAMY, L. M. Feb. 3, 1936, No. 3257. [Class 79 (v)] The linkage connecting the two stub axles or steering swivels together and to the steering-gear comprises two trackrod parts 14 pivoted at their inner ends about horizontal axes to two members 16 pivoted together and to a horizontallymoving support 20 by a vertical pin 22 which is connected by a ball or universal joint 23 to the drag link 25 operated by the steering-gear drop arm (not shown). The stub-axles (not shown) are preferably independently-sprung being mounted on axle parts 11 which are pivoted on horizontal axes to a spring-mounted part 12 of the chassis, and are further controlled by radius rods 13. The support 20 is formed by an arm pivoted at 21 to the part 12 and having two lugs 19 between which the members 16 are pivoted. The members 16 are mounted on sleeves 27 slightly longer than the bosses of the members 16, these bosses being separated by washers 26. Lubricating passages 28 are formed in the pin 22 and lead to the gaps between the sleeves 27 and adjacent parts, the end of the pin having a grease nipple 30 screwed thereon. The track rods 14 are connected to the members 16 by pins 17 and rubber bushes 18.
