Abstract

233,804. Vickers, Ltd., Lucas, O. D., and Caddell, W. B. Feb. 19, 1924. Projectiles; projectile fuzes. - A practice bomb for dropping from aircraft comprises a main body A of cement or earthenware material cast around a metal thimble B adapted to contain a cartridge C and to be closed by a nose plug F, a rod D extending rearwards and carrying tail vanes d, and a hook E projecting laterally for holding the bomb on the aircraft. The nose plug F may be of metal or of wood with a lead weight f secured to it by a pin f<1>, which also acts as the studs of a bayonet-joint b<4> to secure the nose plug in place. This plug also carries a firing-pin H, and the cartridge is held away therefrom until impact by lugs f<2>.
