Abstract

482,546. Projectiles. SAGEB SOC. ANON. DE GESTION ET D' EXPLOITATION DE BREVETS. March 15, 1937, No. 7494. Convention date, March 13, 1936. [Class 9 (i)] Relates to projectiles of the kind comprising an ogival nose 1 connected by a cylindrical part 3 with a tapering rearward portion 5 to which is attached a tail 10 carrying stabilizing vanes 11. According to the invention, the projectile has a length of 7.3 calibres and the lengths of the component parts are comprised within the following limits, expressed in calibres : ogival nose, 1À82 to 2À18; cylindrical portion, 0À59 to 0À71 ; tapering rearward portion 2À09 to 2À42 ; tail 1À55 to 1À85 ; and vanes, 0À59 to 0:71. The tail of the projectile shown is smaller in diameter than the rear end 12a of the portion 5 and houses a propellant charge, the gases of which escape through openings 14. A supplementary charge 15, such as that described in Specification 433,438, may be placed around the tail, the forward movement of this charge being limited by a collar 15a. The vanes are formed with projections 13 which serve to guide the projectile in the gun. The centre of gravity G is located between 0À36 and 0À44 calibres, and the centre of resistance R between 0À90 and 1À10 calibres, behind the rear end of the cylindrical portion 3.
