Abstract
316,871. J÷rgensen, C. L. Bloch-. Aug. 4, 1928, [Convention date]. Gun cartridges; projectiles. - A cartridge a, Fig. 1, for a smoothbore firearm is loaded with a bullet e of smaller calibre fitted with a frusto-conical guiding tail f and surrounded by one or more split rings g which come apart when the projectile leaves the gun barrel. The rings g are preferably made of felt. The bullet e may be of lead, and the tail f of wood. The wooden tail may be secured to the bullet by means of a plug h, Fig. 3, which may be fastened by a transverse pin, or may be cast in the bullet, or may be clinched into a jacket secured to the bullet, or the tail may be made of hollow metal in one with a short jacket secured to the rear of the bullet. Screw-shaped wings f<4>, Fig. 8, may be formed on the tail to cause the bullet to rotate during flight.
