Abstract

232,472. Heppell, W. J. Aug. 6,1924. Resistance to propulsion, reducing.-In an arrangement for reducing the resistance to propulsion by supplying compressed air to the bottom of the hull. Air from a compressor is supplied to an inclined bend f, Fig. 1, located forward of the collision bulkhead m, the bend being associated with a fitting comprising an air control valve b operated by a rod c, and a non-return valve d located adjacent to the discharge bend d. In a modification, the rearwardly-directed distribution chamber g, Fig. 2, is secured by an intercostal plate. Lateral escape of the compressed air is prevented by bilge keels l, Fig. 5, and supplementary bilge keels with inwardly-inclined extensions j, p may be fitted.
