Abstract

494,285. Lifeboats. FARRUGIA, C. Oct. 5, 1937, No. 26996. [Classes 113 (i) and 113 (ii)] A lifeboat is completely decked in, having slidable sections at each side of a central hood for the admission of passengers. A series of ballast tanks 14 are arranged along each side and connected by pumps 33 and pipes so that the boat can be corrected for list. Air from one compartment is led to its opposite tank by a flexible hose 40, the upper end of which is retained above the ballast water surface by a float 39. Seats are arranged along each side and along the centre line over a central compressed air storage tank. The propeller 59 is protected by an extension 60 of the keel.
