210,688. Imray, O. Y., (Lambert, W.). May 25, 1923. Vessels for bulk cargoes.-A vessel designed to facilitate the discharge of floatable cargoes such as lumber has bow and stern buoyancy chambers 3, 4 and side tanks 5, 6 subdivided by transverse bulkheads. The cargo 2 is floated by flooding the hold and the cargo is cleared off by still further submersing the vessel by filling the side compartments 5, 6. The end buoyancy compartments containing the machinery and crew keep the vessel afloat. The side tanks are connected up to the steam pump and the end sections 3, 4 are entered by water-tight doors.
