Abstract

478,253. Ships carrying other craft. WILLIAMS, G. H. KREASEL-. July 14, 1936, No. 19562. [Classes 113 (ii) and 115] Ships carrying other craft such as submarines or barges having a lesser radius of action than the mother-ship, the craft are mounted on or in a rotatable frame so that the craft may be launched in succession down a passage or slipway formed in the hull. As shown in Fig. 1, submarines 11 are mounted in a self-levelling fashion in a frame 16 which is rotated, for example, by ropes 21 to align the craft in succession with the shoot 2 which is continued by the outboard slipway 4 supported by the pontoon 5. In a modified arrangement, the submarines are launched from the ship below the water level. In another form, barges 28, Fig. 6, are hung from the frame 26 which is rotated by the gearing 33, 34. Aircraft may also be stored in galleries 47 and launched by means of the adjustable platform 48.
