Abstract

580,721. Launching torpedoes. THORNYCROFT & CO., Ltd., J. I., and MILES, C. E. Feb. 15, 1939, No. 4973. [Class 9 (ii)]. Torpedoes are launched forwardly from surface craft, such as motor torpedo boats, above the water line and from below deck through a tube 2 arranged on one or each side of the centre line of the vessel at a small angle to the centre line. The tube or tubes terminate at the side of the vessel in openings covered by a movable fair-water door 4 or by a rubber sheet through which the torpedo passes. The rear end of a tube is disposed adjacent the stern and covered by a.loading door 8. To facilitate loading, a cradle 9 is provided which is reversible to suit either of the tubes shown. In a modification, the rear end of the tube projects through the stern of the vessel.
