Abstract

1,083,422. Submersible craft. E. HIMMELEIN. Jan. 18, 1965 [Jan. 17, 1964; Dec. 22, 1964], No. 2114/65. Headings B7A, B7M and B7V. A submersible craft with at least one driving motor has hollow tanks 2, 3 lying longitudinally alongside the hull and the two tanks are connected to one another by a centre piece 4 which carries part of a coupling releasable from inside the craft. If, while submerged, the tanks 2, 3 are damaged or cannot be blown due to lack of compressed air, they can be released by turning a hand wheel 24 and the hull 1 floats to the surface under its own buoyancy. Weights 17 which lie on the centre piece 4 swing downwards to give stability to the hull and each tank has a buoy 22 attached to assist recovery of the tanks. In another embodiment the releasable connection holding together the hull and centre piece with tanks is a pivoted coupling. The centre piece may also have bow and stern members which allow it to become an independent hydroplane on release.
