Abstract

1,182,792. Vessel for underwater research. OCEAN SYSTEMS, Inc. 14 April, 1967 [15 April, 1966], No 17158/67 Headings B7A and B7V. A submersible vessel includes a main propulsion motor 80 and propeller 82 mounted as a unit at the stern to rotate through 180‹ about vertical axis Y-Y, a bow thruster 56 comprising a motor 59 with outboard right-angle drive to auxiliary propeller 57, mounted at the bow and rotatable through 360‹ about the longitudinal axis of the vessel, and a hovering propeller 70 rotatable on a vertical axis at the stern and driven by reversible motor 72. In the embodiment described the vessel comprises an operator's chamber 22 and a diving chamber 20 separated by a hemispherical bulkhead 23 having a hatch with two covers 24 and 26.
