1334958 Ships' transverse propulsion SCHOTTEL-WERFT JOSEF BECKER KG 12 Jan 1971 [24 Feb 1970] 1427/71 Heading B7V A transverse propulsion unit comprises a casing in the form of a bulbous bow which can be detachably attached to flange 12 at the bow of the ship and which comprises a propeller 16 mounted in a tunnel 13 and driven, via gearing, by electric motor 17. The pitch of the propeller blades may be varied by an hydraulic motor. Pivoted vanes 18 are provided at the ends of tunnel 13 to render the hull smooth when under way.
