A life-boat capable of being launched down an incline (specifically that of the installation described and claimed in Specification 1,200,710, has longitudinal fins 15 for absorbing the shock of impact and for stabilizing the vessel, and a trimming fin 16 at the bow. Both fins are preferably at 30 degrees to the horizontal. The boat is of a totally enclosed form and has an elevated seat such that the helmsman can see through an observation dome on the top. A release device inside the boat actuates the mechanism of the launching installation.
