Abstract

561,346. Lifeboats. CRANKSHAW, H. M. Nov. 7, 1942, No. 15742. [Classes 113 (ii) and 115] In a lifeboat in which the hull is constructed from sheetmetal plates with similarly shaped bow and stern sections and a totally enclosed top deck, the bow and stern sections are each made from two complementary plates A, B, and A<1>, B<1>, Fig. 5, whilst the midship sections are each made from one or more plates C similar to each other. The top deck d, Figs. 1 and 4, is formed by transversely cambered plates, all the plates of the boat being welded together, and the keelson e may be formed from a T-section bar. Part of the deck may be protected by armour plate or absorbent material, and the fore and aft peaks may, be stuffed, with kapok. The lifeboat is provided with the usual equipment and includes a conning tower d<1>, hatches d<2>, d<3>, d<4>, w.c. and lavatory fittings, fore and aft steering wheels u, u<1>, and. fore and aft hinged masts x, x<1> which may be tubular to act as vent pipes.
