Abstract
379,565. Ships' hulls. GHIRARDI, L., 2, Via Ponte Reale, Genoa, Italy. Nov. 18, 1931, No. 31954. [Classes 113 (i) and 113 (ii).] Ships' hulls of considerable draught have in the bottom a deep longitudinal cavity 9, 10, 11 of semi-elliptic or analogous outline and having a breadth at least a third of that of the ship, the sides of the bottom of the ship adjacent to the edges of the cavity being flat so that the tangents to the cavity at the points of intersection are substantially vertical. The ship may be provided with lateral or a central keel. The rudder may be disposed at the aft end of the cavity. To further reduce resistance to propulsion air may be supplied to the forward end of the cavity.
