Starting prime-movers.-The parent Specification describes an electric starter in which a system of circuits, controlled by a single hand switch, effects the axial movement of the starter pinion c into engagement with the engine flywheel d and the closing of the main motor circuit, the circuit of the electromagnet f controlling the axial movement of the pinion c then being automatically broken, so that the pinion is free for automatic disengagement when the engine starts. According to the present invention, a few turns of the main circuit of the battery a and motor b are arranged on the core of the electromagnet i of the switch i<1> which, while the hand switch k is still closed, causes and maintains the break of the circuit of the electromagnet f. The motor b is provided with a supplementary field winding b<2> in the circuit of the electromagnet f, so that the motor turns slowly before the main circuit is closed.
