Abstract
222,900. Royce, F. H. April 12, 1923. Securing pinions on shafts.-In a resilient drive for engine gears, particularly the halftime gear of internalcombustion engines, a pinion c is driven from the main shaft a through a series of springs e arranged between radial lugs on the sleeve c<1> of the pinion and similar lugs projecting inwardly from a flanged member d<1> bolted to a drum b, b<1>, b<2> keyed at a<@> to the shaft a, the resilient action being damped by friction produced between a plate d, also bolted to the drum b, and a flanged member g keyed to the pinion sleeve c<1>. The member g is pressed against the plate d by springs f<3> arranged in an annular member f, which is prevented from rotating relatively to the drum b by the engagement of pins f<4> on the drum with holes in the member f. The parts are held on the shaft by nuts a<4>, b<4> having overlapping flanges.
