Packeting by wrapping-up. - Relates to machines for wrapping rectangular articles and of the type in which the article is thrust, with a wrapper, through a slot in a plate into a gripper device so that the wrapper is applied to the undersurface, the forward surface, part of the upper surface, and the forward portions of the ends. The gripper is then carried downwards to con tinue the folding operations. According to the invention, folding members are pivoted to the gripper device to fold down the upper projecting end portions of the wrapper on to the ends of the article immediately after the folding in of the forward end portions. As shown, the article a, Fig. 1, and wrapper w are thrust by a plunger b through a slot in the plate 3 into a gripper 1 so that the relative positions of the article and wrapper are as shown in Fig. 6. Folding members 5 are pivoted at 4 to the gripper and are held in the position indicated in Fig. 1 by a fixed stop 7 acting upon an arm 6. When the gripper moves downward under the influence of a cam 2, a spring 8 moves the folders 5 downwards relatively to the gripper, folding down the parts c, Fig. 7. The plate 3 folds up the part d, and, on the arrival of the gripper at its lowermost position, stops 10 elevate the folders 5, and the partially completed package is ejected to complete the wrapping.
