542,574. Packaging. LAUENSTEIN & CO., GES. Dec. 13, 1939, No. 32121. Convention date, Dec. 30, 1938. [Class 94 (i)] A method of wrapping an article such as a praline 1, Figs. 4 and 6, having at least one flat surface consists in wrapping a sheet of material around the article to form a tube, folding the ends of the tube over surfaces of the articles which are transverse to the flat surface, and then passing the wrapped article through a resilient smoothing-device. The pralines are supported in recesses 3 in a rotating table 2, and in the position shown in Fig. 4, they are lifted by a plunger 4 through an aperture 5 in a plate 6 over which a sheet 7 of wrapping-material has been placed. A praline and the wrapper moves between. arms 8, 9 which grip and retain them, and when the plunger recedes, folders 10, 11 slide beneath the grippers and fold the wrapper across the bottom of the praline to form a tube. At the next operating- station the edges of the wrapper are held in place by a vertically-moving plunger. The open ends of the tube are next closed by bifurcated folders 13, 14, Fig. 6, which mcve horizontally towards the praline, followed by similar folders that move vertically. Finally, the folds are swatted down on to the praline by passing it upwards through a resilient device such as a brush mould 22, Fig. 8, or rotating brushes.
