Packeting by wrapping-up.-In a machine for wrapping rectangular articles in two or more coverings, the articles 1, Fig. 1, are pushed off a band 30 by a plunger 3 and carry a wrapper U with them over a table 4 and beneath a hood 5, folds a, b Fig. 4, being thereby formed. The article arrives beneath a vertically reciprocable folder 6, which descends and forms the folds c, d, e, Fig. 5. A folding and feeding member 7, mounted for vertical and horizontal movement, now rises behind the article and makes the fold f, Fig. 7, and feeds the article into the position 1', Fig. 1, folders 8 having meanwhile advanced and made the folds g, h, Fig. 7. Stationary folds make the folds complementary to the latter pair of folds, and the packet is completed by the turning up of the flaps l, Fig. 9, by folders 10, Fig. 1, finally arriving over a plunger 11. The plunger, in cooperation with a plunger 14, rises and conveys the packet to the level of a table 17, taking with it an outer wrapper 13, which has received a streak of adhesive from a device 12. The outstanding edges of the wrapper are turned down by the parts 15, 16 to form the side folds o, p, Fig. 13. The part 15 is horizontally displaceable, and is moved to the. right to fold up the part q, and a plunger 18 moves the packet to the right, the last depending portion of the wrapper being turned up into the position r by the top edge of the part 16. A folder 19 rises to make the folds s, Fig. 14, and a pair of folders are mounted to move through the path shown in Fig. 19 to make the folds u, Fig. 17. The folders approach the ends of the packet through an arc I, II, move in a straight line II, III during the folding stroke and return to the position of rest by the path III, IV, V. Stationary folders 25<1>, 26<1> make the folds w, y, Fig. 17, gum being applied by a device 27 before the final folds are laid. The packet, impelled by the following packets, passes along a drying passage 28.
