[Also in Groups VIII and XVI] A wrapping machine for enclosing rectangular objects, or groups of objects, in which the object or group is fed into jaws carrying the wrapper with it and thus causing the wrapper to cover its front, upper and lower sides, the jaws then moving relative to another folder to cause the wrapper to be folded on to the rear side, has tucking members mounted on the jaws for forming the front tucks. A web of wrapping material 21 is fed by rollers 35, 40 (see Group XVI) part cutter blades 59, 61 (see Group VIII) which cut off a wrapper and hold it suspended in the path of the object as it is fed to the jaws. The objects are fed from the base of a magazine, defined by guides 80, 81, by pusher elements 85 extending from a bar 74 oscillated by cam means. The jaws comprise members 121, 95 mounted independently, the jaw 95 being urged into gripping position by a spring 96. Pivoted on the members 121 are tucking devices 123, and as the wrapper and object enter the jaws they contact the devices to produce the tucks, Fig. 17. A member 86 presses the wrapper on to the upper wall of the object. The jaws now swing downwards enabling an element 124 to fold the wrapper over the rear side, and then advance towards a folding channel 128, Figs. 18, 19, to thrust the object into the channel before opening and receding. The upper wall of the channel completes the wrapper overlap which is heat sealed by an element 131, and rear tucking and the folding down of the top and bottom end folds is carried out by fixed folders 130, 132, 133, Fig. 8. The wrapped article is advanced through the channel by the following object, heaters 134 sealing the end folds. A feeler, Fig. 16 (not shown), is carried by the bar 74 at its rear end to contact the lower object in the magazine at the end of its forward travel. In the event of the magazine being empty, the machine stops.
