Abstract

1,043,320. Wrapping-machines. PEMCO Inc. July 20, 1965 [Oct. 28, 1964], No. 30870/65. Heading B8C. [Also in Division B2] Apparatus for folding in opposite ends of an openended package, eg. a wrapper folded to tubular form about an article or an open-ended box, comprises fixed and movable tuckers, the latter moving to overtake the continuously moving package and each attached to parallel linkage constraining it to retain a constant attitude to the conveyer. There are also the usual upper and lower flap folding ploughs. The apparatus described operates on the former example of package. The wrapper size is such that both upper and lower flaps are longer than the package height. Wrappers having a glue strip 275 and retained by a holddown bar 273 are wrapped manually round each article A and placed in front of dogs 255 on a conveyer. Fixed folders 261 make forward tucks and members 256 on parallel linkage swing to the full line position to form rear tucks. Ploughs fold down the so-formed upper flaps, their excess length 400 lying on the bottom flaps. Glue nozzles, set into operation by switches 277, 278, Fig. 19 (not shown), (see Division B2) actuated by passage of the wrapper, apply glue strips 401 to the lower flaps. These are ploughed upwards and their excess lengths 402, folded on to the package top by plates 267. Plates 269 then apply heat and pressure to complete the package. The folders are mounted on frame portions 251, 252, adjustable towards and away from each other for different package lengths. Plates 267, 269 are adjustable for different package heights. The apparatus may be associated with package filling means (not described).
