Abstract

856,344. Wrapping-machines. TREDGET, W. C. A., BRIDGER, C. H., and MOLINS MACHINE CO. Ltd. May 5, 1958 [May 8, 1957], No. 14596/57. Class 94(1). Apparatus for folding a wrapper about a rectangular article and forming and sealing end folds comprises a forked tucker on which is mounted a heater for sealing or activating the adhesive of the longitudinal seam through the recess in the tucker. An article 4 is forced by a pusher between plates 3, 8, carrying the wrapper 1 with it, Tuckers 9 are traversed rearwards longitudinally by linkage 10, 11 to form front tucks and an oscillating applicator 12 applies adhesive to the lower trailing portion of the wrapper. This wrapper portion is folded against the article by a member 14, and the upper trailing wrapper portion is folded to overlap by a member 15. The member 15 is forked and a heater 17 pivoted on it but moveable independantly engages the seam through the gap. The tuckers 9 return to form rear tucks and the next articles force the package past the usual ploughs 20, 21 and sealers 22 to complete the end folds.
