[Class 94 (i).] A wrapping - machine is provided with stationary folding means, such as a guideway, to which a partially wrapped article having a fold extending towards the guideway, is adapted to be fed for the formation of an additional fold, and positively movable means for tightening the first-mentioned fold as the article is fed. The articles 13 to be wrapped move down an incline 14 and fall on to a shelf 15, from which they are pushed, by a plunger 16, into an oscillating tumbler 20, carrying with them a wrapper from a guide 10 which is thereby folded about three sides. At the same time the leading end tucks are formed by blades carried by the tumbler. The tumbler now oscillates from the horizontal receiving position to the vertical position shown in Fig. 1 and the article is forced into a vertical folding box 30 by the return of an arm 34 on rods 32 on an ejecting plate in the tumbler. The fourth side is covered by the projecting portion of the wrapper, the other end tucks are formed by folders 50, and the rear broad flaps are folded on to the ends of the article by curved slots 54. On reaching a table 70, the article is in position in front of a plunger 71 and between rollers 55, 56, which engage the broad flaps A, and, by rotating at a peripheral speed which is greater than the linear speed of the plunger 71, tighten the flaps A and the wrapper during the formation of the folds B by the sides 75, 76 of the guideway along which the packages are fed.
