Packeting by wrapping-up. - Relates to machines for wrapping objects of various shapes in paper, tin foil, or the like, and in which the wrapper is applied by passage through a diaphragm and the edges are applied to the uncovered side by folders. The articles 5, Fig. 3, are fed by a supply table 1 with apertures 2 and with an exchangeable sheet metal disc 3 with openings 4 of the shape of the articles to be wrapped. The articles are placed in the openings 4 with their flat faces upwards and the lower faces resting on diaphragms 6 secured to the bottom of the table 1. A plunger 20 thrusts the article, and a wrapper 9 which has been fed into the position shown, through a frame 8 with brushes 7 which effect the preliminary folding. A lower plunger 21 rises to meet the article and descends in synchronism therewith. Bands 16, 17 extend over the plunger 21 and are held taut by weights 18. On arrival at the position shown in Fig. 7, horizontally acting folders 10, 11 advance and turn down upstanding portions of the wrapper. The folders recede to the edge of the article and remains while complementary folders, acting at right angles to the folders 10, 11, turn down the remaining upstanding portions of the wrapper. All the horizontal folders then recede and a plunger pushes the packet along the band 16 and into a delivery shoot. While the folders are completing the wrapping of the packet, the plunger 20 returns to its initial position and brings another object into the preliminary folder 7.
