Feeding w e b s.- Cardboard boxes are made by positioning a main blank a, Fig. 2, which forms the bottom and two ends of the box, and two smaller blanks b, each of which forms a side of the box, on a horizontal table with the blanks b centrally at the commencement of its forward movement to prevent the forward ends of the strips from contacting with the blanks and at the end of its movement. The strips are released and clamped on to the blanks on the machine bed by the grippers 79, the slides 80 having been raised to allow the strips to pass under the grippers 79, and then allowed to fall by gravity. Rollers 90 carried by levers 88 press the strips on to the blanks during the return movement of the slide 62, and these rollers are lifted as the ends of the strips approach the grippers 79 by rollers 89 on the levers 88 engaging wedges on the slides 80. Specification 227,563 is referred to. arranged with respect to the opposite longitudinal edges of the blank a, and then attaching a pair of adhesive strips c to the adjacent edges of the blanks so that portions of the strips overhang the edges of the blank a, these overhanging portions being subsequently caused to adhere to the side blanks when the assembly is folded into box form.
