Abstract

901,471. Wrapping machines; wrappers. VAN BUREN MACHINE CORPORATION. June 9, 1959, No. 19725/59. Class 94(1). A machine for wrapping articles such as cakes of soap comprises an oscillatable folding box, a vertical folding channel and two sets of heating and cooling means arranged alternately, to seal first the wrapper overlap and then the end folds. Articles C are thrust by a pusher 11 into the folding box 12 carrying the wrapper with them. The box includes elements, Fig. 4 (not shown), which form tucks at the ends of the leading face of the wrapper. The box rotates through 90 degrees and a rod 21 thrusts the article into the folding channel 38, the wrapper ends being thereby overlapped and the other pair of end tucks formed, a heater 32 and a cooler securing the overlap. At the base of the channel, plates 52 fold down one pair of end flaps and the other pair are folded on to the first when a plunger 53 thrusts the package between heaters 55. Coolers 61 complete the end seals. The wrapper may be of laminated form consisting of layers as follows: outermost, gloss lacquer, then print, sulphite paper, grease proof lacquer, wax, and innermost, porous tissue.
