Abstract
25,876. Giroud, F. Feb. 2, [Convention date]. Labelling. -Relates to machines in which wrappers are folded round articles by forcing the articles through a channel and at least one rotary folder. The articles 44 to be wrapped are stored against vertical guides 45 and the lowermost article is forced by a plunger arm 11 past a wrapper 39, which has been fed into a vertical shoot 38, into an open-sided horizontal channel formed by upper and lower plates 30, 31, respectively. The result of this movement is to fold the wrapper round three sides of the article, as shown in Fig. 6. When the forward movement of the plunger 11 ceases, the article and wrapper rest in a section 32 of the channel mounted on a rotatable disk, and, as the plunger retires, this section, or rotary fork, turns through two right - angles, thus folding the wrapper round the fourth side of the article as shown in Figs 2 and 7. A plunger arm 12 now moves the article out of the rotary fork into the next section of the channel, thus folding down the flap of the wrapper, as shown in Fig. 8. In order that a number of articles may be operated on at the same time, the plunger arms are fixed to a shaft 10 which both rotates and slides in its bearings 22. Thus the plunger 11, say, pushes an article forward into the channel, the shaft then rotates to lower the arm out of the channel, it next slides backwards and then rotates to raise the arm into position to engage the next article. The plunger arm 12 moves the packet forwards till it rests beneath folders 60, pivoted above the channel, which fold the projecting ends underneath the packet. A plunger arm 13 moves the packet out of the folders over an inclined plate 72 which holds the end folds in position, and past a second wrapper 41 into a rotary fork 33. In a manner similar to that described, this second wrapper, which receives gum from a gummer 74, is folded round the first wrapper and secures the package.
