Abstract
212,228. Wingquist, S. G. Feb. 28, 1923, [Convention date]. Clutches a n d speed-varying mechanism.- The action of a hydraulic variable-speed gear comprising two or more pumps is controlled by a valve acted on by the pressure in the gear and a spring, and by a cooperating valve, acted on by a spring and centrifugal force due to the rotation of the driving or driven shaft. The form of gear shown comprises two sliding -vane pumps, a rotor 2 on the driving shaft 1 and a stator 10 co-operating with a rotor 5 on the driven shaft 4, and communication between the pumps is governed by a valve 15 acted on by a spring 14 and the pressure in a chamber 12. When the speed of the driven rotor exceeds a predetermined value, a valve 19 moves outwards into the position shown against the action of a spring 18, so that the pressure in the chamber 12 obtains access to the back nf the valve 15 through passages 24, 25 and an annular recess 23. The valve 15 is thereupon returned to its initial position by its spring.
