Abstract

Clutches and speed-varying mechanism. - Hydraulic variable-speed gearing comprises a pump 5, Figs. 1 and 2, on the driving shaft 1, the casing 6 of the pump carrying the drum 11 of a variablecapacity motor on the driven shaft, the arrangement being such that there is no circulation of liquid when the shafts rotate at the same speed. The drum 11 is disposed in a casing composed of fixed members 15 and radially-adjustable members 16, the members 15 being provided with guide edges 15<1>, and having spaces 20, 20<1>, Fig. 6, connected by channels 22, 22<1> with the working spaces of the motor. The spaces 20 communicate through recesses 23 in an end cover 4 and a port 25 with the pressure chamber of the pump, and the spaces 20<1> through recesses 23<1> in the other end cover 4', a recess 24 and port 24<1> with the suction chamber of the pump. The pivoted member. 21<1> may be set to reverse the direction of flow through the motor, or to put the recesses 23, 23<1> in direct communication, thus short-circuiting the pump.
