Hydraulic transmission of power.-An hydraulic speed gear comprises a drum with sliding vanes c, Figs. 1 and 2, mounted on the driving-shaft l and disposed within a casing f carried by the driven shaft g, the annular chamber i between the drum and casing being divided by a member h. The casing f is disposed in a fixed outer casing o, and carries a drum k with sliding vanes l, the annular chamber q being divided by a member p. The chamber q communicates through apertures t, r with annular chambers u, s communicating through apertures w, v with the chamber i, so that when the driving-shaft revolves, the path of the liquid is as shown by the arrows. Variations in the gear ratio are obtained by the provision of several drums k which are individually put in or out of action, or by providing several' members p with associated controlling-valves.
