619,429. Change speed gear. FORD MOTOR CO., Ltd. Dec. 10, 1946, No. 36407. Convention date, Dec. 29, 1945. [Class 80 (ii)] A speed responsive valve controlling the flow of pressure fluid to planetary change speed gear selector clutches has its action modulated in accordance with the load. The change speed gear described in Specification 615,175 is modified by the provision of a pressure relief valve 37 on the fluid pump 33, the action of the valve being modified by the enclosure of the spring 38 in an expansible bellows chamber 39 which communicates with the engine manifold. This results in the pressure of the fluid being proportioned to the load, the modified pressure being applied to the end of the valve 55 through the passages 48, 67 and a groove 68 to oppose the centrifugal action of the weights 56. By this means the conditions of the change of ratio are proportioned to vehicle speed and engine torque.
