Abstract
202,405. Holland, H. W., and Mansfield, W. May 18, 1922. Breech actions, drop-down barrel.-A drop-down gun of the kind in which the mainsprings are compressed as the gun is opened, is provided with a slide E pressed rearwards by a spring F and, at the rear end, engaging recesses a<1> in the actionbody, so that when the gun is closed the slide E is pushed forwards to compress the spring. The ejector hammer, which is of the roll-over type, is made in two parts H, Fig. 6, and G, Fig. 4, both mounted on the same pivot and so operating that ejection takes place only when the cartridge has been fired. The part H normally engages the top limb of the ejector spring J. When the gun is opened, and the corresponding cartridge has been fired, the projection k, Figs. 9 and 10, on the cocking lever K engages the surface h and turns the part H until it is out of the way of the spring J, which then bears against the surface g<4> of the part G which is being turned by the surface a on the breech-body. When the centre g<5> is passed, the spring acts to cause the ejection, as shown in Fig. 2. If the cartridge has not been fired, the end of the lever K is free and does not rotate the part H which remains in engagement with the ejector spring J and prevents it from operating. The slide E acts on the hammer and compresses the ejector spring J when the gun is closed.
