Breech actions, drop-down barrel.-Relates to drop-down guns in which, on closing the barrels, a piece pivoted on the body is adapted to cause compression of the cocking spring, the movement of the piece being transmitted to the spring at a point behind the pivot of the body near the hammer. According to the invention, the transmission is effected by one or more levers each pivoted approximately at its centre in the body, and the pressure is exerted downwardly on one arm of the spring at a point near the end of the arm. In the form shown in Fig. 1, closing the barrels 9 rotates the piece 10 pivoted on the hinge 12 and through levers 14, 16 depresses the arm 4 of the cocking-spring. The other arm 1 presses on a link 2 depending from the hammer 3, so that when this is released by tripping the sear 7, the hammer is impelled forwards to fire the cartridge. On opening the barrels, the arm 4 of the spring, by reason of its greater leverage, rotates the hammer into bent. Modifications are described in which the levers 14, 16 are replaced by a single lever.
