Abstract

232,377. Ward, A. B. Feb. 27, 1924. Breech actions, dropdown barrel. - Cocking mechanism, adapted also to actuate the extractor and to form a latch to limit the drop-down movement of the barrel, comprises a slide 6 mounted in a longitudinal slot in the action-body 1 and a lever 7, pivoted at the front of the slide, having an arm 8 engaging the extractor leg 11 and an arm 9 engaging a shoulder 12 on the barrel lug 3. When the gun is opened, the slide 6 is forced back, thereby cocking the hammer 15, and the lever 7 is turned, thereby operating the extractor. The lever 7 limits the drop-down movememt of the barrel and may be released from the barrel lug 3, by pressure on a thumbpiece 10, to enable the gun to be folded up. A spring 14 maintains the arm 9 in engagement with the barrel lug.
