Abstract
206,782. Netsch, J. April 16, 1923. Breech actions, sliding breech-block.-A rifle is operated by a sliding sleeve 4, on the barrel, which is driven forwards by the blast of gases from the muzzle to compress a breech-opening spring 7. The sleeve carries a catch lever 11 formed with a projection 12 which, when the sleeve reaches its foremost position, engages a cross-bar 16 on a breech-operating slide 15. The spring 7 in reacting drives back the sleeve 4 and actuating slide, which first rotates the bolt 23, by means of a helical slot in a part 21 of the slide engaging a projecting stud 22 on the bolt, and then retracts it against the pressures of a closing spring 19. When the sleeve 4 reaches its initial position, the catch 11 is depressed by an inclined stop-piece 14 to release the breechslide, whereupon the breech is closed by the spring 19.
