Abstract
177,119. Marks, E. C. R., (Fabrique Nationale d'Armes de Guerre Soc. Anon.). Oct. 15, 1920. Breech actions, sliding breech-block; magazines.-Relates to non-automatic guns having a safety detent which serves both to lock the trigger during loading and to lock the breechblock in closed position. The invention consists in the application of such a device to guns in which the breech-block is actuated by a slide rigid with a tubular magazine reciprocatable on the under side of the barrel. In the form shown. the slide 5, which is rigid with the rear end of the magazine (not shown) is held in its forward position by the arm 17 of a detent 4 co-pivotal with the, hammer. On firing, a shoulder 22 on the hammer depresses the arm 17 and releases the slide 5, which may then be withdrawn to open the breech and cock the hammer by retracting the magazine. During this movement a spring 19 causes the detent 4 to follow the hammer so that the upturned nose 9<a> on the extension 9 of the detent 4 takes up a position under the downturned nose 10 on the trigger 6, and prevents this from being pulled. When the slide reaches its forward position during the closing movement, a shoulder 23 thereon depresses the arm 17, which then re-engages the notch 18 and locks the slide, the nose 9<a> moving at the same time to the rear of the nose 10. A cavity in the extension 9 in rear of the part 9<a> then permits the rotation of the trigger to fire the gun. The detent may be manually released by actuating the extension 9.
