[Cognate Application, 14,947/14.] Breech actions, sliding breech-block; breech actions, sliding barrel and breech-block; safety appliances applicable generally.-Consists in a safety device controlled both by the detachable magazine, and by a grip-lever, so that the gun cannot be fired when the magazine is removed, or when the grip is not grasped. In the construction shown in Figs. 2, 5, 6, and 8, the searoperating member g is pivoted to the grip-lever f and carries an arm h adapted to be operated. by a stud i<1> on the trigger. When the griplever f is released, as shown in Fig. 2, and turned back by its spring a<1>, the end of the arm h is lowered so that it is no longer engaged by the stud i<1>; and, if the magazine is removed. as shown in Figs. 5 and 6, the member g swings forwards and the arm h is lowered to its inoperative position whatever the position of the grip-lever. After each shot, the arm h is released from the pin i<1> by a cam-surface k<2>, Fig. 8, on the breech-slide.
