Breech actions, sliding breech-block; breech actions, sliding barrel and breech-block.-A sear safety, especially adapted for automatic guns, is formed by a spring-controlled lever which is turned into the safe position, against the pressure of its spring, by an external projection, and held there by a spring detent, on release of which the lever is returned, by its spring, to the unsafe position. Fig. 7 shows the invention applied to an automatic pistol having a fixed barrel, the cranked safety-lever u', u<6> being in the safe position. The detent consists of a leaf spring v<0> having a hooked end v<4> which engages the safety-lever. When the detent is released by pressing the button v<3>, the safety-lever is turned into the unsafe position by the spring w<0>. In this construction, the spring w<0> serves also as the sear spring, and the end of the safety-lever, when in the safe position, also locks the breech-block. Fig. 2 shows the invention applied to an automatic pistol having a recoiling barrel. The rotary spindle u<1>, which is operated by an external lever u, carries a notched arm u<2> for engaging the sear t, and an arm u<3> acted upon by a spring w. A nose v<1> on the retaining-lever v enters a recess in the outer lever to hold the parts in the safety position.
