Abstract

25,744. Korovine, S. Nov. 9. Breech actions, sliding breech-block.-Relates to firearms in which the hammer is cocked for the first shot by a pull of the trigger, and consists in connecting the hammer by a link to a tumbler which is actuated by the trigger and by the firing-spring. Pivoted to the tumbler is a sear which engages a fixed shoulder and holds the hammer cocked during automatic firing. Means are also provided for limiting the return movement of the trigger during automatic firing. In the construction shown in Figs. 1, 4, and 6, the tumbler 7 is pivoted on the pin 8 and is connected to the hammer 1 by a link 5. Fig. 1 shows the hammer uncocked. During the pull of the trigger, a nose 24 on a pawl 21 pivoted to the trigger engages the nose 25 on the tumbler 7 and turns it, and with it the hammer, until the nose 24 slips past the nose 25 and allows the tumbler 7, together with the hammer 1, to return, under the action of the firing-spring 12, and fire the gun The recoil turns the hammer and tumbler, as shown in Fig. 4, and the sear 14 pivoted to the tumbler 7 falls into engagement with a fixed stop 16<1>. At the same time a lever 2 on the tumbler 7 comes under a heel-piece 4 on the trigger and limits the return movement of the trigger as shown in Fig. 6. When the gun has been cocked automatically, as shown in Fig. 6, a pull on the trigger causes the nose 23 of the trigger-pawl 21 to lift the sear 14 from the fixed shoulder 16<1>, thereby discharging the gun. To facilitate the uncocking of the hammer, a safety-device is provided, comprising a spring-pressed pawl 28, Fig. 16, adapted to be manually moved inwards, against the pressure of its spring, into engagement with a notch in the firing-pin. The notch is undercut so that, when the hammer is pressing against the firing-pin, the pawl is held in engagement. The pawl 28 also locks the breechblock to the body. In a modification, the pawl 28<1>, Fig. 21, is hidden and is operated by an external spring finger 31<1>.
