Abstract
1032. Schwarzlose, A. W. Jan. 14. Breech actions, sliding breech - block; breech actions, sliding barrel and breech-block; breech actions, hinged breechblock.-Relates to automatic guns having a toggle-link action, especially to the kind in which the front link forms the breech-block, and consists in mounting both the closing and the firing devices in the links of the toggle. The closing-spring is mounted within the rear link, and the firing-pin within the front link. The invention is shown in Figs. 1 and 2 applied to a rifle. The front toggle s is hinged to a sliding guide-piece v and carries the firing-pin b<1>, the sear n, and a sliding cocking-bar k. The sear is operated by a pawl w on a sliding trigger bar a, which is moved backwards and forwards during the opening and closing movements of the breech-block. When the bar is in the forward position, as shown in Fig. 1, it forms a stop for the cartridges in the magazine. The closing-spring f is provided with a sliding plunger i, which acts on a cam d<1> fixed on the rear pivot d. The cam is so formed that, when the breech is fully open as shown in Fig. 2, the spring does not exert sufficient force to start the closing movement. During automatic use of the gun, this dead-centre is overcome by the trigger spring f<2>, which acts as a buffer. To put the recoil spring f entirely out of action, this cam d<1> is turned forwards by means of a handle d<2> until its point engages the lower part of the bevel on the spring plunger; the cam then simply turns with the rear link. The extractor may be made resilient as shown in Fig. 11. The forward end of the trigger pawl w forms the ejector. Grooves for a charger guide are formed in a extension s<5> in the front togglelink.
