Abstract

Vehicle lamps; mounting electric lamps in lanterns. - In a vehicle lamp, the front consists of a plate of glass a and a condensing lens b mounted with its axis g-g non-coincident with the lamp axis f-f. The lamp is preferably provided with a reflector which is paraboloidal, or part e, Fig. 2, paraboloidal and part d spherical, and the axis g, g of the lens is preferably slightly above and parallel to the axis f, f of the reflector. The lamp is mounted on trunnions h so that its axis can be directed down towards the road. A reflecting ring j is mounted round the inner end of the lens b to prevent the escape of direct rays between the lens and the reflector. The electric lamp-bulb k is carried by a tube l passing through, and secured by a thumb-screw n in a hole in a cylinder m which is mounted in bearings o in the base of the lamp, so that it can both turn and slide longitudinally in the bearings, and is locked in position by a screw p.
