Grates; fire-bridges.-In an externally-heated bakers' oven the furnace is fired by a crude-oil burner 47 and the combustion products pass from the combustion chamber to the space 53 between the arch 41 and the floor of the baking-chamber through the restricted outlet of the space 49 and perforations 59 in the arch 41. The front wall 43 is preferably ported for the admission of air. The floor of the baking-chamber 5 is corrugated to form a radiating surface and also to form transverse flues 73 leading to side flues which are provided with inclined plates 81, which prevent pocketings of the gases and lead them to openings in the plate 75, communicating with the top flue 79. When starting the oven the flue 67 is used, a perforated, sliding damper 93 being provided to allow the products to escape to the chimney flue 83.
