Cooking-stoves; air supply for combustion. - In gas - heated oven stoves for cooking &c. air is admitted under the burners only, the air orifices, which direct the current upwards and across the flame, being formed between the burners and removable plates, entrance, of air otherwise than through the orifices being prevented by the burners making contact with the removable plates or with the walls of the stove. In the stoves shown in Figs. 1 and 4, the bottom of the oven is closed by a plate 1, the burner pipes 2 being arranged in chambers 4 open to the, air and separated from the interior of the oven by removable plates 6 having openings into which project the elongated burners 3 so as to leave an air orifice 7<a> between the lower edge of the burner and the upper edge of the opening in the plate 6. Entrance of air above the burner is prevented by the upper face of the burner making contact with the top of the opening in the plate 6. Inclined recesses 3a formed between the orifices of the burner give the air an upward direction, and the lower edge of the orifice 7a in the plate 6 may be set at an angle for the same purpose, as shown on the right-hand side of Fig. 1. Various arrangements of the plates 6 and of the end and top walls of the burner chambers 4 are described. In the form shown in Fig. 6, an angle-plate 61 forms the inner and top walls, the air orifice 7d being formed between it and the burner pipe 2 which it carries. The bottom plate 1 may be dished as shown in Fig. 1 to assist the heated air beneath it to flow into the burner chambers 4; this flow may be further assisted by depending guide-plates 15 at the sides, beneath which is a plate 18 with a central port 19 for the entrance of air. Fig. 3 shows a modification in which a removable tray 14 closes the bottom of the stove, the air orifices 7<b>, 7<c> being formed between the sides 6e, 6k of the tray and the burners 3. The waste, gases pass away through a port 8, Fig. 4, the inner edge 9 of which is at a higher level than the outer edge 10. An exhaust flue 11 may be used instead of, or in addition to, this port.
