Abstract
199,060. Keller, E. Straub-. Jan. 13, 1922. Spray burners; blowpipe burners.-A convertible liquid and gaseous fuel burner comprises a body 1 having inlet branches 6, 15 and a central nozzle 2 surrounded by an annular chamber 5. An adjustable outer nozzle 7 is connected by arms 9 to a hand-wheel 10 screwing on a spindle 12 fixed to the body 1. The central nozzle 2 is formed with a central bore 3, terminating in a contracted portion and a divergent outlet 4. A stuffing box 13 is interposed between the parts 1, 7. When the burner is to be used for burning liquid fuel, the fuel is admitted to the bore 3 through a zig-zag passage 16 controlled by a valve 17 in the inlet 16, and air is admitted to the annular chamber 5 through the inlet 6. Part of the air passes through a threaded passage 14 on the body to .the rear of the bore 3 and causes a preliminary atomization of the fuel. The partly atomized fuel issuing from the outlet 4 is further atomized by air issuing through the annular passage between the adjustable nozzle 7 and the nozzle 2. When the burner is to be used for burning gaseous fuel, the passage 14 is closed by a long screw which is substituted for a screw 18 shown in Fig. 2. and gas is admitted through the inlet 6 and air through the inlet 15. Specification 104,446 is referred to.
