Abstract
219,378. Drew, E. S., and Laidlaw, A. B. S. April 20, 1923. Spray burners. - A liquid fuel spray burner comprises coaxial air and fuel tubes a, b, the fuel tube b having a detachable screwed end j which is formed with external threads k for whirling the air and carries an adjustable screw l having a coned periphery i and a flat underside n parallel to the end surface of the end j. An adjustable ring o having a coned face p screws into the tube a over the threads k of the end j. The fuel passage through the tube b is regulated by a needle valve f and communicates with a central passage m in the screw l. The fuel issues from the passage m through cross bores m<1> in a film and meets the whirling air issuing from the passages between the threads k. The air and fuel mix in a passage between the surfaces p, i, from which passage it is discharged in a direction divergent to the tubes a, b. The entrance of air to the tube a is controlled by a valve e and the discharge is regulated by the adjustment of the ring o relatively to the grooved end s of the end j. The needle valve f may be roughly adjusted by turning its spring end h and a finer adjustment obtained by turning a plug g. The fuel and air are supplied to the burner at the same pressure, either the fuel container being connected to the air supply pipe or the pressure equalizing device described in Specification 203,726 being used. The burner may be secured to a hood as described in Specification 203,726 by means of a nut q. Specification 219,377, [Class 69 (iii), Spray-producers], is referred to.
