Abstract
563,069. Blow-lamp burners. TURLEY & WILLIAMS, Ltd., SMITH. C. D.. and OTTON, D. H. April 15, 1943, No. 6027. [Class 75 (i)] In a burner for blow-lamps &c. vaporized liquid fuel or a mixture of liquid fuel and air issue from a jet 9 controlled by a threaded valve spindle 8 formed with a cylindrical needle portion 18, the size of the annular opening between the end of the needle portion and the conical portion 9b of the jet bore varying as the spindle S is adjusted and the jet being closed when the needle portion enters the jet orifice 9a. in which it is a sliding fit. In the fully-closed position of the spindle 8 a conical surface 17 on the spindle engages a seating 17a in the burner fitting 7. In the blow-lamp shown in Fig. 1. liquid fuel under air pressure in the container 1 passes through a pipe 2 fitted with a filter 2a to a vaporizing coil 3 surrounding the burner and communicating with a bore 6 in the burner fitting 7. At starting, compressed air can pass from the top of the container 1 to the bore 6 through a valvecontrolled pipe and a metering jet so as to atomize the fuel issuing from the jet 9 and render it combustible.
